Brian Castano retained the WBA secondary “world” junior middleweight title at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The fight was close but we saw Castano edging Lara out on this one. We believe the judges got it wrong. The result was an unsatisfying split draw. One judge had it 115-113 for Lara, another had it 115-113 for Castano, and the third had it even, 114-114, for the split draw. Lara (25-3-3, 14 KO) was looking to bounce back from his April 2018 loss to Jarrett Hurd in which has been claimed by many Fight of the Year in 2018. The Cuban southpaw worked effectively at range, while Castano (15-0-1, 11 KO) did better when he took the fight inside. It’s another disappointing outcome for the veteran Lara as always. UPPERCUT disagrees with the decision.
